The tech industry has long been criticized for excluding women and people of color. Google is working to change that.
As a part of its company-wide racial equality commitments, the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund was announced in June to provide startups with cash awards, and the best of Google’s resources, people and best practices. With $5 million in funding recently announced for 76 Black-owned companies across the nation, almost half was awarded to Atlanta companies including Just Add Honey, Portrait Coffee, Vibe Ride and more.
Atlanta-based nonprofit, Goodie Nation, was also tasked with managing all cash awards distribution.
