In Atlanta, Delta is more than just the preferred airline – it’s a symbol of home.
When air travel dropped almost 97% in April, Delta naturally struggled and accepted $5.4 billion in loans from federal relief funding. Six months later, air travel numbers are slowly rising, but still not close to what they would be normally.
So initially, it was a surprise when Delta turned down an additional $4.6 billion loan due to concerns over control with the government loan. Instead, Delta chose to take on $6.5 billion of debt through a private loan backed by its SkyMiles frequent flier program.
