North Little Rock, Arkansas, police officer Tommy Norman became a social media sensation from his community policing efforts, showcased through Instagram.

“Community policing is an unconditional approach of going out and doing bizarre things in a positive manner,” Norman said. People took notice. His posts of real-life people and stories gained attention locally before CNN reached out. Now, Norman has 1.2 million followers, earning shout-outs from Snoop Dogg, T.I. and more.

“A lot of people I’ve talked to see that (community policing posts) are genuine and that they come from the heart. They’re just hooked,” Norman said.
