Hear Ye, Hear Ye

by

Communication is the Sisyphean task for all managers. No matter how much or how often, a manager’s communication efforts are never enough.

Communication is a two-way street, and the sharpest criticism is usually reserved for communication to, rather than from, managers. Every person in an organization wants to have a voice. Everyone wants to be heard. That doesn’t just happen; managers must actively solicit input.

“Breakfast with management” or town hall meetings may be effective tools. One friend created a committee with representatives from all levels and departments with a mandate to “improve things.”

Good managers listen carefully and hear.
