Happy Accidents

by

Legendary sportswriter Dan Jenkins once wrote that winning is “the happy accident of bringing together …[people] who can’t stand to lose.”

He’s right about two things. Winning requires the right people. Attitude is important, but so are talent, a mix of skills, leadership and dedication to a shared goal. That’s the second way in which he’s right – assembling that is almost impossible, indeed a “happy accident.”

Developing and maintaining commitment to a shared goal is the hardest, but it is the key to winning. Without it, the most talented team will fall apart. Good managers must work on that continuously.
