As WABE-FM’s Myke Johns interviewed me at A Cappella’s rare book sale Thursday, gazing at a signed first edition of Walker Percy’s The Moviegoer, I recalled meeting the acclaimed author in line behind the casket of Bolling Phinizy Spalding, through whom we were related.
“You Eastern Southerners should come to the Western South,” he said. “It’s completely different.”
A week later, I was in his home, where he set up an interview for me at his hometown newspaper in Greenville, Mississippi, and signed my first editions of all his novels, except for this one, which I didn’t own. Until now.
