Kali-Ahset Amen, whom the Atlanta Press Club recently honored for her interviews at WRFG-FM, traces her work to 1997 when she was beaten in South Africa.
She “spoke out against” three men who she says were very rude and disrespectful toward her and another woman. One hit her in the face while the others kicked and beat her unconscious. Against pleas of friends and parents, she “pushed through that fear” and stayed in South Africa.
Today, she gets “into the nitty gritty of social and structural causes of the kinds of situations and psychologies that motivate that kind of violence.”
