“Some architects look down on interior design as a lesser profession.”
When a previous employer transferred Stephen Swicegood to London 30 years ago, he was very excited – until his first client meeting.
“I began to realize something was different: They had all the buildings they needed.” Instead of designing the next cool building, the architect discovered he was in a different profession: interior workplace design.
Having since been inducted as a fellow in the American Institute of Architects for his pioneering work, Stephen today manages the Gensler Atlanta office, defying market trends by growing it through the recession and helping clients, including Coca-Cola, improve productivity and innovation – inside their existing buildings.
