Dining in St. Simons

by

Looking for a place that served dinner late on one night in St. Simons, we found Sal’s Neighborhood Pizzeria, where we enjoyed delicious pizza and a mussels special on red-checkered oilcloth tablecloths.

Owner Sal Cenicola regaled us with stories of his former boxing career, which included world boxing records, and how an Italian boy from New Jersey ended up in St. Simons.

We had to have our traditional crab cakes and ginger bread at Barbara Jean’s. For a late-night dinner Saturday, we opted for plates piled high with our favorite barbecue, collard greens and hush puppies at Southern Soul Barbecue.
