Chinese Tire Drill

by

Until the early ‘90s, the Chinese either weren’t allowed or couldn’t afford cars. Now, they have nearly 100 million of them. So how does an entire nation of inexperienced drivers cope with each other on the road?

In their own special, terrifying way. Lanes and road signs, like new KISS albums, are completely ignored. Red lights mean “enter slowly and hope something small hits you,” and pedestrian crossings will make you wonder whether the one-child policy was necessary to curb the population.

And yet, it all works because in ever-present fear of each other, the Chinese drive vigilantly and slowly.
