Good Mews

Children who struggle with reading can have a new audience this summer: kittens and cats. Marietta’s Good Mews, a nonprofit cage-free cat shelter, is offering sessions for students to read to the shelter’s adorable felines.

The program is designed to help children gain confidence in reading in a non-threatening environment while providing playtime for animals. The program also teaches kids the importance of empathy, animal welfare and community service.

The 90-minute reading sessions are held Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Each session is limited to 12 students, and students should BYOB – bring your own book. Sign up online.
