Week #30: Summer Jobs

by admin

Forty years ago, my classmate Charles Driebe and I were on spring break when my mom called and asked about my summer plans. I said I was planning to take it easy. Wrong answer.

She enrolled us in a bricklaying course and we launched the Buckhead Bricklayers, distributing flyers in (shady) yards with our memorable tagline: “We Lay for Less.”

Together with classmate and future King & Spalding partner Mike Egan we built walls and terraces that still stand today.

If this eNewsletter gig doesn’t work out, it’s comforting to know I have a solid career to fall back on.
