Prioritizing Safety Through Design

by admin

Well-designed places create safer cities, according to Project for Public Spaces. When places have adequate lighting, areas to sit, shelter from weather, public spaces for activity and visible wayfinding, a city becomes safer for its visitors and residents.

The U.N. Women’s Safe Cities Global Initiatives is working to implement such practices in cities around the globe in order to reduce violence against women, including New Delhi, India, where 90 percent of females experience sexual harassment.

Rather than prioritizing excellent design practices purely to attract bright, young talent or to create healthier cities, let’s remember well-designed places can also save lives.
